Red Oregon Sunstone From Butte Mine 3.60ct Minimum 12x10mm Oval Mixed Cut. Mined In United States And Cut In India. Color Varies

Oregon's Sunstone Butte Mine is one of the premier sources of gem-quality sunstone in the world today. What sets this mine apart are the sizes, colors and better-than-usual clarity of many of the crystals found there. Formed as result of volcanic activity in the region over 15 million years ago, Oregon sunstone is a natural copper-bearing labradorite feldspar. During the seasonal mining season that runs from mid May until early October, miners find beautiful crystals in colors ranging from near colorless, yellow, red to green, with bi-colored gems occasionally found. The crystals often exhibit the optical property (phenomenon) called aventurescence, meaning they contain very small reflective platelets of native copper. Creating a glittering effect in sunlight, this is known as the stone's schiller and is highly desirable among collectors of phenomenal gems. Since 1987, sunstone has been Oregon's official state gem and it's no wonder why! Don't miss this opportunity to add this special American Splendor(TM) gem to your collection today.

The American Splendor Collection is our salute to the magnificent gems and minerals of the United States. Rivaling the beauty and splendor of gems found across the globe, each is a prime example of many of the most desirable gems available today. From dazzling Herkimer quartz of New York to vibrant garnet and peridot of Arizona to the beautifully unique opals of Oregon's high deserts, each gemstone carries the pedigree of being born in the USA. Collect the wonder of America's own gems and minerals today at Jewelry Television and jtv.com.

Sri Lankan Imperial Hessonite(R) Garnet Minimum 5.00ct 12x10mm Oval. Gemstone Mined In Sri Lanka And Cut In India.

As Jewelry Television's buying team continually travels the globe in search of the most exotic gems, we discovered a garnet variety unlike any other a few years ago. Called Imperial Hessonite(R) due to its intriguing and regal natural coloring, this gem is mined on the island nation of Sri Lanka, nicknamed "Gem Island" because of its extensive mineral wealth. Mined in a small rural area, Imperial Hessonite(R) production is extremely limited, yielding only a couple of kilograms of rough material every few months. And of that small amount, only 3 to 5% is deemed worthy of carrying the Imperial Hessonite(R)name. Our exclusive supplier of these gems purchases directly from the mine to ensure JTV customers have the opportunity to own this magnificent gem. Hessonite has long been called the "cinnamon stone" and we invite you to discover this spicy gem today!

Ancient Roman scholar and author Pliny the Elder once wrote "There is in them a softer fire than the Ruby, there is the brilliant purple of the Amethyst, and the sea green of the Emerald - all shining together in incredible union..." What a magnificent tribute to Opal, often called the Queen of Gems. Prized for its unique and fiery play of color phenomenon, no opal is more treasured than black opal, especially those found in the Lightning Ridge mining fields of southeastern Australia. After precious black opals were discovered there in the early 20th century, Lightning Ridge quickly became the world's major source of the finest black opal. The most coveted of all opal varieties, black opal is called the "king of opals". Its dark background color sets the spectral colors ablaze, much like a storm cloud behind a rainbow. Today, the Lightning Ridge fields yield little of these precious opals, which has only led to its increased desirability among collectors across the globe.

Opalized Snail Shell Fossil 19.88ct 22.06x14.92mm. Gemstone Mined In Lightning Ridge, Australia.

Deposits at Lightning Ridge yield some of the rarest, most beautiful and precious fossils in the world. 110 million years ago sandstone once formed the floor of a shallow inland sea where plants, aquatic life and occasionally the bones and teeth of animals were preserved. One of our most unique pieces is this opalized snail from Lightning Ridge, Australia. This particular piece shows, in great detail, the outline and ridges of the snail's shell. Covered only partially in matrix, the shell displays ample green, blue and purple play-of-color. Snail shells are not found at Lightning Ridge very often, and those that display color such as this are far rarer indeed.

One of the greatest mysteries of our time surrounds the rich olive gemstone, moldavite. Moldavite is a form of tektite. Derived from the Greek word tektos, "to melt," tektite is a naturally occurring glass believed to have extraterrestrial origins. Moldavite is thought to the creation of a meteorite that fell to the earth 15-20 million years ago. The surface of the meteorite fused and melted away upon entering the Earth's atmosphere, scattering the material along the Moldau River in the Czech Republic. The only "celestial" gemstone known to man, moldavite has been associated with the stone of the Holy Grail. It is said to have fallen from Satan's crown as he fell from heaven. Celebrate the mystery of the only celestial gemstone known to man...Moldavite...a brilliant cosmic creation!
